Standardized Patient Program

Standardized Patient Program

What is a Standardized Patient?
Standardized Patients are people who have been trained to accurately portray the role of a patient with a specific medical condition. Standardized patients bring a new dimension to the world of medical education in that they provide students with “hands-on practice” in a safe environment. These patients are not really sick but are “real people” who provide much appreciated feedback to the students.

The Value to the Student
The ability to perform a competent physical exam, take an accurate, thorough medical history and build a rapport with patients are fundamental clinical skills that all graduates should possess. The Standardized Patient Program’s primary objective is to ensure that all graduates possess these essential skills.
