Dr. Duane Brandau

Duane Brandau, D.O., Ph.D.,
Associate Professor of Biochemistry

Dr. Brandau came to Rocky Vista University from Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics in Kansas City Missouri, where he worked as a research scientist in the Department of Medical Genetics and Molecular Medicine. His research focused on metabolic problems and the long-term outcomes of patients with Prader-Willi syndrome, the most common cause of syndromic obesity. While at Children’s Mercy Hospital, Dr. Brandau was also an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Medicine. Dr. Brandau has a long career in osteopathic medical education including faculty appointments in Pediatrics and Biochemistry at both the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He has also served as the Vice Dean of Academic Affairs at both osteopathic colleges before returning to research at the University of Kansas in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry. At the University of Kansas, Dr. Brandau was the Associate Director of the Macromolecule and Vaccine Stabilization Laboratory which specializes in the pre-formulation stability of pharmaceutically interesting macromolecules and vaccines.
Dr. Brandau graduated with his D.O. degree from Des Moines University in 1978, and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Wyoming in 1986.
