Rocky Vista University Scholarships

Three scholarships have been established to advance the mission and vision of Rocky Vista University and the College of Osteopathic Medicine. Our goals are to promote primary care practice, increase diversity among our student body and the osteopathic profession, increase access to health care for underserved populations, and increase the opportunity for underrepresented and often disadvantaged students to obtain an osteopathic medical education.  The requirements of our scholarships are structured to assist in meeting these goals.

Students who wish to apply for a scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year must meet the following criteria.

  1. The student must be officially admitted to RVU or be an enrolled student in good standing.
  2. Each applicant must complete a Rocky Vista University Scholarship Application.
  3. Each applicant must submit an essay that details their professional goals and planned contributions to the osteopathic profession and to the public health and welfare. They should also describe how the award will assist them in meeting these goals.
  4. Each applicant must submit at least three (3) letters of recommendation from individuals who can attest to their need and suitableness for the scholarship. Letters of recommendations cannot be accepted from immediate family members.
  5. All scholarship recipients must be committed to pursue graduate medical education leading to a career of professional service in a primary care discipline. (Defined as Family Medicine, General Internal Medicine, General Pediatrics, Geriatrics, or Women's Health-Obstetrics/Gynecology).

Applicants must submit a complete scholarship application packet by June 1, 2008. Scholarship applications will be screened by a committee of faculty, administration and Board of Trustees and the awards will be announced by the Chief Academic Officer by July 1, 2008. The amount of the each scholarship will be established annually by the Board of Trustees and the administration of the University and College. Awards for 2008-2009 are anticipated to be $20,000 for each scholarship but are subject to change.
